What the ruck is a ruck? A hike with a weighted backpack (approx 30 lbs) while stopping along the brisk walk to do some invigorating exercise. Excellent 1st F (fitness) and 2nd F (fellowship). If an FNG (Friendly New Guy) is a bit timid to post for a workout the ruck is a great intro to the pax.
QIC: Hustle
Da pax: Grit, Jimmy Dean, Beaker, Mayor, Billy Bob (the 6), FNG Lamont Thurston, and Hustle
Da thang: the pax were told to bring a filled, 1 gallon jug of water. Some guys thought we were going to have a lady with us this fine morning, with the title being ‘Ruckin with Jugs’. To their dismay, no female was present, as this is ONLY MEN. We saw some lightning in the distance and didn’t know if we were going to have to cancel, but it stayed in the distance and never returned. We trekked 3.5 miles, each carrying their jugs with them. At different point and different distances, the pax were told to hold the jug high above their heads until told to ‘recover’. We stopped a couple of times for some PT work.
Stop 1: high plank position while passing the jugs around the circle to the next guy, going around several times
Stop 2: wall-sit squat moving the jugs down the line and back
Stop 3: the jugs were dropped and we gathered at the big oak at the bottom of the hill near the Northview driveway entrance. An ‘Indian bear crawl’ was attempted but we just bear-crawled up to the top where ye ol’ shovel flag was planted. We then did 20 squats in cadence.
Stop 4: we ended back at the Ruckus and set the jugs down again, double-stepped it down the long hill and up again.
COR, NOR. We had an FNG this morning, Lamont ‘The Shadow’ Thurston, who was EH’d by Grit, who made his debut just yesterday at Faith Hill. The Shadow’s name was given to him because he was named after a guy who played The Shadow on a 1930s radio, drama program. WELCOME ‘THE SHADOW’!
The 6 was Billy Bob, and EH’d by Jimmy Dean. We all know his success with the weight that he’s lost and are truly inspired by his progress to date and continued drive to live well and inspire others. AYE!
Announcements and prayer intentions were then done: for Houdin’s wife, The Shadow’s mom recently recovering from surgery, for the troops and first responders.
