25 men made the tough decision and fought the gloom on this Patriot Day. The morning had a summertime feel to it – hot and humid! At 0530 we got after it!

5 core principles, the mission statement, and a brief disclaimer were clearly given. YHC gave a brief description of what the workout would entail:
9/11/2001 tragic day with lots of ways to remember and focus on what happened. This morning we’re going to focus on the 4 planes that were hijacked and crashed around the country. In total, 2,996 lives were lost because of these 4 planes. 2,606 died at the World Trade Center Towers. Included in that number is 343 firefighters, 37 Port Authority officers, and 23 NYC police officers. 265 died aboard the planes. 125 died inside the Pentagon.

    Mosey to track as warm-up

At 0846 hrs, Flight 11 crashed into the North Tower. 87 PAX + crew were onboard.
-11’s with Americans & Plank Jack Shoulder Taps
-110 total reps (more than 1 for each PAX killed)
    -1,000 yards run

At 0903 hrs, Flight 175 crashed into the South Tower. 60 PAX + crew were onboard.
-4 laps around the track, stopping halfway for 30 reps of Squats/Air Presses
-240 total reps (1 rep per PAX killed each lap)
    -1,600 m run

-At this point, we’ve covered over 2,606 meters of running (including the mosey in the beginning). 1 meter for every life lost at WTC Towers.

At 0937 hrs, Flight 77 crashed into the Pentagon. 59 PAX + crew were onboard. Another 125 PAX died inside the Pentagon. 184 total deaths.
-American Hammer x 23 (done in cadence)
-Mountain Climber x 23 (done in cadence)
-Flutter Kick x 23 (done in cadence)
-SSH x 23 (done in cadence)

At this point, YHC realized that there wasn’t going to be enough time to complete the entire planned beatdown. So decision was made to move to the next set of events. Had planned to do another round of the above exercises which would’ve put us at 184 total reps (1 rep for each PAX killed at the Pentagon). Had also planned to do a 77 yard bear crawl in honor of Flight 77.

At 1003 hrs, Flight 93 crashed to the ground in Shanksville, PA. 40 PAX + crew were onboard. By this time, the PAX knew what was going to happen to them. They made the decision to limit the loss of life and took matters into their own hands. They made a hard decision and stuck with it. They worked together and made sure the plane didn’t make it to its intended destination. The ultimate sacrifice.
    -split into 2 even teams
-40 yd Farmer Carry Relay (25 lb weight plate in each hand and 40 lb sandbag on back)
-1 yd covered for each PAX killed

    -Countorama
    -Nameorama
    -Know the 6 – Sideshow
    -Announcements

Instead of the usual prayer intentions, YHC asked the PAX to keep their thoughts and prayers with the men and women who continue to face the adversity that the events of 9/11/2001 have caused for our country. We’re still feeling the repercussions of this day, and our military is still fighting to prevent this from happening again. As of the end of August 2019, 7,202 US military and DOD civilians have died in battle. Another 53,000 have been wounded.
